Flag - Thailand Pre-Vietnam
5 August 1999

Mission 'Meet Sare @ Airport' was accomplished. Our cunning use of a "Miss Sa-wah Wi-tak-ka" tannoy announcement, plus excitable reunion in Arrivals made for loads to catch up on during the journey back to the hostel by bus and river express. Whilst we were out that evening, Kate's calm reaction to the flying cockroach which landed on her breast was unbelievably impressive.

Getting used to Thai transport. A 4hr bumpy minbus journey in the rain, a ˝hr wait (at Ban Phe dock)and a ˝hr dark and rolling boat journey to the island of Koh Samet, is now but a stroll in the park. Stayed 2 nights, less humid than Bangkok and pleasantly warm, frolicked in the sea and picked up a few mosi bites. Well, you can't have it all your way, can you?

Sare had brought some bubbly over from Australia to celebrate all meeting up in Thailand, and celebrate we did, sitting on the white sand facing out to sea. Classily, with our water bottles for glasses, sharing the beach with some goats and dogs. To top the night off, a fire juggler performed by moonlight as the waves lapped up behind him. An absolutely fantastic night.

We're now back in Bangkok, picked up our visas and tickets for Vietnam, ready to fly this afternoon. Aiming to meet with Soph inside Saigon airport later today, and then see what Vietnam has to offer... With lots of covering up (long trousers and long sleeves), we're hoping frantically that it will be less humid than Bangkok. And less rainy!

We fly back here on the 25th Aug., and don't konw how accessible email will be until then. Thank you to those who've written already - it's great to find new letters in the Inbox, and its something we can afford to do cheaply in Bangkok!

Vietnam installment coming your way soon. Over and out.
